LLDCs National Focal Points Meeting in the Margins of the World Export Development Forum (WEDF)

Background

This year’s annual meeting of the LLDCs’ National Focal Points Network will be convened in the margins of the World Export Development Forum 2023 (WEDF) scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar 26-29 June 2023. The WEDF is the annual flagship event of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and it is the ideal setting to discuss trade development and connect businesses to new markets. The WEDF 2023 is hosted by the Government of Mongolia. It will bring together participants from around the world to discuss trade, do business and drive development. It is a unique opportunity to bring together the voice of small business, women, young entrepreneurs, policymakers and international organizations. Its side events offer capacity building for trade, with training, insights and partnerships for small businesses to engage in international markets. The Forum aims to provide substantive contribution to the preparatory process for LLDC3.

Aims and objectives

This year’s national focal points meeting is held in preparation for the Third UN Conference on LLDCs slated to be held in 2024. The meeting will provide a platform to review progress achieved so far in the implementation of the VPoA, identify the challenges and bottlenecks faced by LLDCs in achieving the set goals and objectives of the VPoA and the SDGs as well as other relevant global development agendas. It will also consider the new and emerging issues and their implications on LLDCs. The meeting will identify innovative and tangible solutions to LLDCs challenges. Most importantly, the meeting will discuss possible priorities and initiatives which may be considered in the next Programme Action for LLDCs. The NFPs will also share national, regional and global level experiences and best practices for achieving the SDGs.

Participation

The meeting will be attended by government designated National Focal Points and selected senior government officials, relevant UN agencies and other international organizations as well as Development partners.
