Welcome to the Online Dialogue on
Women and Health

The conducted a three-week online conference/dialogue (31 August to 21 September) on women and health. Participants discussed good practices as well as identified obstacles to implementing the Beijing Platform for Action in the critical area, Women and Health.

"Women And Health" was a priority theme for the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women in March 1999. Moreover, in preparation, the UN Division for the Advancement of Women, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in association with the Commonwealth Secretariate jointly held an Expert Group Meeting from 28 September to 2 October 1998, in Tunisia. The purpose of the expert group meeting was to discuss and develop a framework useful in the design of national health policies with an integrated gender perspective. Participants include experts appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations from different regions of the world, government observers, UN officials and NGOs. The results of this meeting was presented to the Commission on the Status of Women.
