The Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court started its process of electing judges on 4 February 2003. The Rome Statute provides for the election of 18 judges with a minimum voting requirement for six women and six men. The candidates that obtain the highest number of votes and a two-third majority of the States Parties present and voting are elected.
