The Vienna International Centre was inaugurated in 1979 and has been home to international organizations ever since. An agreement between the UN and the Austrian government enabled the Vienna office of UNPA to issue the first UN stamps in Austrian schillings on 24 August 1979.

On 23 August of this year, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) issued stamps to commemorate the forty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of UNPA at the Vienna International Centre.

The sheet of 10 stamps in the denomination of €1,20 features various pictures of the Vienna International Centre Headquarters complex. The tabs to the right of the stamps feature a blue United Nations emblem on a white background.

Sergio Baradat of the UNPA designed of the stamp sheet, which was made in close collaboration with the UN Information Service in Vienna.

The first stamp in the upper right column features a ?which is the result of the cooperation between the UN, the ,?and several Austrian-based public and private sector entities.

The mural painting by Australian artist ?explores the human elements of the UN and the fragility of peace and is in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Summit of the Future.

The stamp sheets may be personalized with a photograph to replace the United Nations emblem. Customers can visit the UNPA stamp shops in New York or Vienna to have their photos taken in person, or they can upload their photos directly to the .
