We are proud to present to you a new website for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA): /en/desa

Built and designed in collaboration with the Department of Global Communications (DGC), the new UN DESA website will serve as the public face of the reinvigorated and reformed department.

Much more than a mere face-lift, the new UN DESA website will feature a series of technological enhancements:

  1. It uses the UN 2 platform, which is built on Drupal, the UN web content management standard.
  2. UN 2, developed by DGC, automatically conforms to UN Website Guidelines.
  3. It has built-in support for mobile devices and multilingualism.
  4. It is more scalable to handle heavy web traffic.
  5. It is built following the template of the current main UN website, which significantly shortens the development cycle and saves the cost of website design and development.

The new website presents UN DESA’s work in three main pillars:

  1. Intergovernmental Support
  2. Analysis
  3. Capacity Building at the Departmental Level

The latest UN DESA Highlights Report 2019-2020 informed the content of the website’s static sections.

The new website will serve as a hub for UN DESA products such as Publications, Databases, Policy Briefs, Working Papers, Webinars, Statements, Videos, Infographics, and the UN DESA Voice newsletter. It will also feature the latest news and information on upcoming events from around the department.

With over half a million visits each quarter, the main UN DESA website is the first impression most stakeholders get of our department. Today, we are proud to show them the face of a new UN?DESA, fit for the 21st century.

You are welcome to visit and explore the new UN DESA website, available in English (at the moment), with other UN official languages coming soon. Stay tuned!
