The United Nations is now accepting applications for the upcoming competitive examination for Chinese Translators, Editors and Verbatim Reporters.

The examination establishes a roster to fill present and future vacancies for Chinese Translators, Editors and Verbatim Reporters (P-2/P-3) at United Nations Headquarters?in New York, as well as at the UN Offices at Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok.

Candidates must:

  • have a perfect command of Chinese, normally expected to be their main language;

  • also possess an excellent knowledge of English; and

  • hold at least a first-level degree or an equivalent qualification in modern languages, translation, interpretation or another relevant subject, such as law, economics, accounting, international relations, science or technology, from a university or institution of equivalent status, preferably one at which Chinese is the principal language of instruction.

Not required but desirable are:

  • to have an excellent knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, French, Russian or Spanish); and

  • two or more years of practical experience in translation, verbatim reporting, editing or a related field.

As the examination will be conducted remotely, candidates simply need a computer and a high-speed internet connection.
