A collaboration between the Permanent Mission of Colombia and UNITAR, the Indigenous Issues Training for UN Delegates and Staff, emerging from the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, aims to mainstream Indigenous perspectives in UN discussions on key world issues. It serves as an essential tool for promoting a more informed approach in addressing challenges affecting Indigenous Peoples, enhancing participants' understanding and skills in this vital area of global governance. This session can be joined in person or via live webinar.
This training series will occur every Tuesday and Thursday over five modules in a?hybrid?format at the UNHQ in New York, 10AM - 1PM EST / 16:00-19:00 CET on?20, 22, 27, 29 February and 5 March 2024.
UN Delegates and Staff will have the option to attend anywhere from 1 to all 5 sessions. Thank you for joining us for this enlightening series on Indigenous Issues.?

Module 1: Institutional-Normative Framework on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within the UN

This module will introduce participants to the institutional and normative framework that has been created by the United Nations system for recognizing and addressing the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Module 2: Indigenous Peoples’ well being, SDGs, and Summit of the Future

This module explores the ways in which Indigenous Rights are incorporated within the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, and the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to the Summit of the Future.

This module seeks to explore the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to re-envisioning peace and to peacebuilding, based upon specific case studies such as Colombia in which they have played a key role.

Module 4: Environment, climate change and Rights of Mother Earth

In this module participants will examine the distinct contributions of Indigenous Peoples to addressing the multiple crises of the environment, including approaches to sustainability and recognition and defense of Mother Earth as a living being with rights.

Module 5: Indigenous Diplomacy
Date: Tuesday, 5 March 2024, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM EST /?16:00-19:00 CET

This module will examine common features of the worldviews of Indigenous Peoples that constitute distinctive forms of diplomacy and foreign policy, including reciprocity, codependence, co-creation, and ongoing relations whose responsibilities change based on circumstances and needs.
