– UN Geneva’s Annual Report 2020 – is available now. It highlights the work of UN Geneva in a year in which the world faced many significant challenges.

2020 was defined by the COVID-19 pandemic and its severe impact on every aspect of life as we had known it. The pandemic is not only a global health emergency, it also entails a human crisis, a financial crisis and an economic recession.

It has laid bare global inequalities, hindered progress towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and challenged traditional multilateral processes.

At UN Geneva, we undertook extraordinary efforts to facilitate multilateralism during these difficult and uncertain times.

Thanks to the resilience, creativity, and dedication of UN Geneva staff and the wider UN family in Geneva, we rapidly adapted to new technologies and ways of working, ensuring that we continued to deliver on our mandate to the Member States and support international cooperation, despite both the pandemic and financial constraints.

The COVID-19 pandemic notwithstanding, in 2020 the international community marked the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

Events and initiatives organized by UN Geneva and International Geneva in the framework of this anniversary were an opportunity to reflect on how far the Organization has come, and where it needs to go in the future.

These activities, and more, are outlined in the Annual Report. The report also contains a special youth insert,? You can find both the report and its insert in and on our website.

Recent events have reminded us that overcoming our greatest challenges, from COVID-19 to climate change, requires unity, resilience, and a strong multilateral system.

UN Geneva stands ready to work with the wider United Nations and the international community on this in the years to come.
