UN Chamber Music Society Virtual Concert in Celebration of World Wildlife Day

On 3 March 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform a concert in celebration of World Wildlife Day.? The animals and plants that live in the wild have an intrinsic value and contribute to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and to sustainable development.? World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people. At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.
On this occasion, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform a programme inspired by wildlife - 'Hope Is the Thing with Feathers' and 'Flocks a Mile Wide' from The Lost Birds – composed by 2x Grammy award winning composer, Christopher Tin.? The Lost Birds?is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humankind. Sweeping and elegiac, it's a haunting tribute to those soaring flocks that once filled our skies, but whose songs have since been silenced. It's a celebration of their feathered beauty: Their symbolism as messengers of hope, peace, and renewal. But it's also a warning about our own tenuous existence on the planet: that the fate that befell these once soaring flocks foreshadows our own extinction.?
