Closing remarks at HLPF 2024 Side Event: The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty: Bridging Knowledge, Finance and Partnerships to Achieve SDGs

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are not on track to end hunger and poverty by 2030.

Eradicating hunger and poverty must remain our top priority.

There are encouraging signs and opportunities to reignite progress.

But lasting progress will require integrated approaches that address multiple goals and the interconnections among them.

We have already seen the power and potential of leveraging SDG synergies.

The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and the UN-system efforts to advance SDG transitions are interlinked.

UN Country Teams are an important ally for achieving the goals of the Alliance through UN joint programmes on food systems.

As we move ahead, several key milestones can contribute to our efforts against hunger and poverty.

The Second World Summit for Social Development in November 2025 is an opportunity to forge a new global consensus and to make concrete commitments to promote inclusive, equitable and resilient societies.

The Fourth Conference on Financing for Development in July is an important moment to address the financing challenges facing Member States to achieve SDGs.

I invite the Global Alliance to act as a catalyst to implement the outcomes of these critical milestones.  Achieving our goals remain possible if we are responsible to act timely and boldly.

In conclusion, we look forward to the work and contribution of the Global Alliance to advance progress towards SDGs 1 and 2.

Thank you!
