Consensus

Gift ID:
UNNY341G

This painting named Consensus, illustrates a collection of rock shapes, large and small, assembled together and could be seen as a community seeking understanding and building consensus. The subtle shades of blue and white suggest harmony, peaceful co-existence, between people, nations, and our ability to be closer to the natural world.

The Award-winning Singaporean artist Mr. Tay Bak Chiang (b. 1973), trained in traditional Chinese ink painting, seeks contemporary expressions in his paintings for subject matter, composition, and material. His affinity for stone as art subjects comes from his reverence for nature as perfection, balance, and harmony. He was inspired by his visit to the United Nations to capture the energy of diplomatic work and the aspirations of “We the People” of the world through a large canvas with a vibrant tone that radiates light and hope.

This painting was given by the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations as a tribute to peace and harmony and to acknowledge the work of the United Nations to improve the lives of people around the world. In its letter transmitting the gift, the Permanent Mission also indicated, when leaders and diplomats reach agreement or consensus, they strengthen international cooperation for peace and security advancement, sustainable development, and human rights. A consensus outcome may often be inelegant and imperfect but the search for consensus is a never-ending process.
