Border Security and Traveler Screening workshop for Iraq

CT Travel Programme supported 3-day Border Security and Traveler Workshop organized for border security and counter-terrorism agencies of Iraq held on 27-29 March in Amman, Jordan. The workshop brought together 15 government officials representing Border Guard Force, Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residence, Office of the National Security Advisor, National Intelligence Service and the Civil Aviation Authority. CT Travel Programme organized four sessions at the workshop focusing on best practices in watchlisting (CTED), foundations of Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) and the use of passenger data in the context of the Passenger Information Unit (PIU) (UNODC-AIRCOP and UNOCT), developing national legal framework on API and PNR (UNODC TPB) and roadmap for the implementation of the CT Travel Programme in Iraq (UNOCT). The workshop, organized by INTERPOL and United States Department of State in partnership with CT Travel Programme and IOM, concluded with sets of recommendations to advance overall border security and CT strategies in Iraq, including those linked to the UN Security Council Resolutions 2178, 2396, and 2482.
